'BlockMiester draws'
(photography done by Rianna Dulake)
These images are of the product that we decided to pick for our media advertisment , which are the chest of draws by Steve Mclean .
These Chest of draws are white with a shinny silver handle which gives the product and proffesional look , the top of this product is almost like a solid bus shelter , which creates almost like a shelf affect and makes the product look more professional , and stand out from other chester draws. and designed with a modern affect ; which creates a younger demographic audience . The chester draws creates a 3D affect with the draw popping out from the curved back.
This product would be handy for storing extra items all in one place . This product could be practical within a school , house , offices etc.
Clients Needs
The clients needs for this product is for the designer to create awareness of his product and to show his creativity and artistic skills that he used to create the product. By creating an advert for his product this will help the clients needs by creating a visual awareness for his product and potential sell in a large quantity.
Target Audience :
The clients needs for this product is for the designer to create awareness of his product and to show his creativity and artistic skills that he used to create the product. By creating an advert for his product this will help the clients needs by creating a visual awareness for his product and potential sell in a large quantity.
Target Audience :
The primary target audience for our draws is targeted at females , middle class , aged between 20-30 years old . We are going to make two adverts , a long advert and a shorter advert , the longer advert is going to be on the internet and the shorter advert is going to be on television. This may attract a much broader target audience and become our secondary audience .
The advert that we hope to have achieved is going to have two actors , both males , the mood of this advert is going to be cheesy american which we will hopefully achieve a comical and eye gripping advert that our demographic audience will enjoy ; and most importantly persuade people to buy the draws. The reason for our advert to be targeted at females is because the two actors who will be appearing in our advert will attract a female audience by their personal appearance and there behaviour . Another reason why our target audience will appeal to woman is because the design of the draws are elligant and has elements that will appeal to this target audience such as the silver shinny handle . Woman are also into adding a finishing touch into their homes and finding storage space to keep there homes looking clean and tidy , and as a group we feel that these draws will appeal to this specific demographic.
Primary Target market profile :
gender - primary audince woman
age - 20-30
class/ status - middle class
race- various race and ethnecity/ religion
psychographics:
I think that my TMP will be interested in the following things:
Shopping
Fashion
Luxury items
Social activities
Production Diary
Initial plan / ideas
The advert we hope to have achieved :
cheesy American theme - comical advert
two actors , in commercial both male actors
appeal to our specific target audience - females
to make two adverts - one shorter advert for television and a longer advert for the internet
discuss locations and when filming would be available -
The equipment used such as :
camera
tripod
draws
etc.
We are going to achieve this by thinking of theme music or lines that would make an advert cheesy and American , either looking at other adverts all ready existing and analysing what makes them successful or not . We are going to look for two actors that could play a part in our advert , we would have to make sure they are free / available on filming day . and to make sure that we book the location and the equipment to make sure the health and safety is clear and that the equipment isn't being used .
Treatment & The clients Proposal:
I had to create an advert for the product that was designed by Steve Mclean. The reason for creating an advert was to create awarness for the product and to promote the qulity of the his work. The outcome of this advert was to appeal to the consumers and to sell the product. The need of the product was to make more storage space where you can put magazines, any household items that needed to be put away and was origionaly designed for a shop. Steve Mclean wanted to get more awarness for his product.
The idea for our advert and the type of advert that we will produce will be a cheesy American theme to be memerable, the content of our advert will be an actor walking into a shop for new draws, and then shots of the draws, with the price. There will be a need for this advert as this will help people be aware of the product and the designer. We hope to evoke this effect of the cheesy American advert by the theme music / the sound , the actors are going to have simple lines but remerable such as 'need new draws , 'only £99.99' . We hope to have various camera angles in our advert such as close up , long shot , etc. The tone of our advert will be comedy . we will achieve a spacious mis-en-scence because we will make sure that our chosen / final location will be a large area . In our advert we are going to make part of our advert active to our demographic by adding in questions such as need new draws ? , we feel by making our advert active this will make our target audience feel more interacted and invloved . I feel that the unique selling propositions of this advert will be the actors as this will engage the audience with the humour of the scripting. The purpose of this advert was to attarct the audience and to make them aware of the product, by making a true to life advert as possible. This advert will be communicated through a TV advert and a online advert, which will attract our young demographic audience. The primary target audience will be aimed at 20-30 year olds woman and our secondary target audience will be aimed at men 20+. The reason for this target audience is becuase the apperance of the draws are morden and would suit a younger demographic more than an older age range. The reason for the draws to appeal to women is because they are more interested in home finishing touches and finding ways of keeping things tidy such as finding storage space for magazines, books, toys, pens etc.
The audience needs :
People who maybe moving house or need bigger / smaller furniture to what they already have in their homes may feel that these 'BlockMiester draws' will feel perfect for them and in their homes . In result to this our draws will be at a reasonable cost for people to buy . Our target audience for our TV advert will atttract a much more mass target audience beacuse in comparrison to our longer advert which will be aviable on the internet will only be avaible on specific websites , where as out televison advert will be avalible to see at various times such as 6.00pm where families are at home and people are home from work .
The roles :
Lemar (actor) - came in with the broken draws
Cory (actor) - salesman advertising the draws
Rianna (filming) > me and Rianna took it turns to film the advert
Amber (filming)
(Tom & Elliot was away on filming day)
Targets :
Our targets was that we wanted to shoot our video and completed it as soon as possible our idle time that we thought was 1-2 hours
Our other target was that we wanted to make it identically to our final storyboard / stick to our initial thoughts which was a cheesy american theme .
The process of getting to our advert was :
1. choosing the product
2. identifying roles & responsibility
3. look at some original adverts - what was our favourite adverts and what made us like them ?
4. creating a brainstorm / storyboards of advert ideas
5. adding in our individual ideas from our story boards and created one together
6. to organise our actors and props needed
7. to book time for us to film & edit
8. to start filming
9. when filming is complete , start to edit on iMovie
10. complete editing until complete
The ethical issues of our advert could be we got permission to use the equipment and to book the room to be able to shoot .
Interview With The Designer :
http://wwwjazminunit3.blogspot.co.uk/
This is a link to somebody's blog that has interviewed the designer 'Steven Mclean' , as our group was unavailable too . From this video i have learnt many of things such as the original design was a magazine table , designed specifically for hair dressers , to keep all the magazines tidy and overcome the storage of newspapers and magazines of the shop . Steve Mclean's inspiration was by an aritect called 'Frank Woodwright' and he designed something called 'Hillhouse' . The reason for him to be his influence was because there was boxes that looked liked they was floating , which helped with his design , 'Steve Mclean' used something called a shallow hall which creates the box floating effect. Another inspiration was by a painting called 'Composition Ten' which looks at different thickness of boxes , this is apart of still art movement. The original name of this product is called cloud 90 , because of the bright white colour and the 90 degree angles.

(Rianna filmed Elliot , Elliot filmed Tom , I filmed Rianna and Rianna filmed me - as tom was away on that day , so we had to add toms in after).
We felt as a group Elliot would suit this role because he is good at observing any hazards and personal safety. We felt that as a group we needed someone to seek permission for the filming and we appointed Elliot for the role. We also felt that Elliot was suitable for this job role as we felt that he would make good judgement based on the personal health and safety and the potential risks. We also felt that as a group Elliot should be in charge of this role because he did well in science which made the health and safety and potential hazards more aware. This also made becoming aware of toxic materials more recognisable and how to handle them, furthermore we felt as a group this would be useful for filming and being aware of personal safety and what is around us when filming and in certain locations.
We felt as a group that Tom would best suit the job role for production schedules and production diaries because he was doing a business management course/ business BTEC course furthermore he was used to working against strict deadline dates. Which as a group we felt like we needed to stick to certain deadlines. Also this help us to estimate our time efficiently by sticking to deadline dates. We felt that Tom would be appointed with the following roles because with his other courses these skills come into place, for example in business you need to have contingency plans and any backup ideas incase we are unable to book our primary location or unable to get the equipment we need, furthermore with the following knowledge and the key skilled being practiced in other areas we thought that it would be beneficial for Tom to complete any contingency plans.
We felt that as a group Rianna would be best for evaluating the product & the process, this is because she was good at written analysis and evaluation an overall product. Rianna also did particularly well in English as we felt that we should use are strengths as a group to our advantage by allocating roles and responsibilities that fit our strengths. A key job role for Rianna was originality, to ensure that in our group we had to make our advert unique, as Rianna took photography we thought that this skills would best suite her personal skills and experiences. Furthermore in photography you are requires to show ideas and developing originality within the work you produce with the concept of ideas, furthermore we felt as a group this skills would be appointed to Rianna.
I think that I was best suited for the role of 'producing the media product' because i feel that i can take care of the equipment well & responsibily . I also felt that i was suitable for the role because i wanted to progress my weakniess such as video editing and convert it into a strength . I also do photography , so i felt that i would be experienced in camera / filming at different angles & shots . I also think i should have been incharge of the role of media production becuase i am aware of how to take care of the equipment well and safely and the correct set up with my other team members . Also i felt that i should of been encharge of production because as a team we looked at the other roles and decided what roles suited them e.g. Rianna's strengths are evaluating and writting analysis and Elliots strengths are risk assessment / health and safety . I feel that my photographic skills could be a strength within my rule because my use of framing , the structure of my photographs could benift by the filming of my final product.
I also did media for GCSE which would be beneficial for this as previously i have some background knowledge on camera work and other media visual products such as poster designs etc. The skills that was involved in this was taking our own photography and composing a visual project of a poster that would advertise our own perfume brand, logo, slogan, poster etc. that we created individually. This would link in with this as by thinking about what would appeal to different audience and what to have in a shot/ visually. Also by looking at films and the structure of them helped us compose our advert by thinking about what would appeal to different audiences, such as theme music/ diegetic and non-diegetic sound, scripting etc. By researching and looking at other existing adverts this would also help us as a group to think about the structure of our own advert and think about who are we trying to attract as an audience and what would appeal to them. This would help me when deciding what i want the outcome of my advert to by by previously creating a form of advertisement . The other skills that i have learnt have been working with media software/ the macs. By working with the macs this has allowed me to know the functions and the different software programmes on there, this would be beneficial when editing the final piece of our advert when using the software IMovie.
Here is some examples of my photography work :

This photograph shows use of photographic elements such as depth of field , this shows that with a camera i can focus on the main subject , and keep the less important subjects out of focus.

This photograph is almost like a worms eye view shot the way the subject / the building seems so big and tall from a low angle. This skill could be used in filming , such as to make somthing seem stronger , better than anything else.

This photograph has good use of framing which could also be consindered a strength when filming the final product and the characters in shot e.g. close-up , medium shot etc.
In conclusion the roles have slightly changed as the attendance of our group members have been abscent / missed the lesson the other members have took charge of there roles / covered there roles to make up for missing work.

Contingency plans
Broken Equipment -
First we would make sure that we had the appropriate equipment we need when filming , for example a camera , tripod etc. Secondly we would check the equipment worksand make sure nothing is broken e.g. if the camera has full battery life and enough memory for our group to film our commercial and to check if the tripod is sterdy enough and to check if the camera fits properly . If any problems do occure during this process we would make sure there is spare equipment avaible if not when we need to film , one of our group members would book / make sure the equipment is avaible for another session.
Bad Weather -
As a group we need to be able to move the product from one place to another location , so we would need to check the weather is appropriate so that the product doesn't get damage . In result if there is bad weather , we would have to arrange another day to film or wait until the weather has improved later in the day.
Sickness-
If any of our group members or actors are not there on filming day the rest of us would have to either fill in for them , or if any of our cast / actors are there on filming day we would use our plan b actor / backup actor; however if both of our original and spare actor are both not in then we would film on a differnt day.
Actors -
We are using two actors for out advert , we would need to backup a spare actor incase of sickness , or any problems that may occure however if there is no problems that happen then we would stick to our orginal actors.
locations -
If the location has been taken on filming day , we would have to put in our own time e.g. after school when it is quite , so the sound doesn't affect the quality of the video.
Product -
If the designer decided he needs to take the product somewhere , then would would have to wait another day to film , or when the product has returned .
Sickness / absents of group members
Friday 18th May - Elliot was away due to illness and missed the filming , Tom was also away during the filming due to a meeting . Rianna and Me completed the filming .
Tuesday 29th - Rianna was abscent , while Tom , Elliot and i was completing tasks that needed to be complete
Thursday 26th April - Tom was absent , due to illness
(The weather was dry on filming day (18th May) , the equipment was well handled , nothing got broken or damaged . The equipment / props used was :
camera
tripod
broken draws (prop)
the real product draws

Content & Treatment
When filming our product we will have to consider various elements that will make our advert appeal to the particular demographic such as language, the people included in the performance, the type of shots, the music etc. As our advert is aimed towards 20-30 year olds this will consider what we want to create by making a storyboard and a script to identify the type of shots and the language used. The type of language that we will used will be simple that will put the point across as why you should buy these draws, also cheesy language with American style accents which will reflect our theme of our advert of of a cheesy American style as this will be memorable for the audience and will help them to remember our advert and we will be advertising, the language that will be included will be scripted dialog such as 'you don't have to say a word, follow me, follow me.' This type of language will be persuasive on order to show the audience why they should The type of shots that we will use will be various of close-ups, longs shots etc. as this will show various angles of the product and the expressions of the actors face/ and the price of the product. The mise-en-scene of my advert will be bright/ high key lighting which will help and persuade the audience to purchase the items and this will make the product of the draws look more desirable. The clothing of my characters will be wearing casual clothing which will appeal to a young demographic and attract my audience. The ethnicity for my characters and the gender of my characters will be two male black British characters which will be help draw the attention to our primary audience of females.
Location for filming
I have chosen the Atrium to film because of the large space and the bright lighting which has allows us to film in a clear way. The large spacious area has allowed us to becoming accessible with bringing in certain equipment. The room has bright natural lighting and extra spot lights if needed. The health and safety elements is that we may have to consider removing any chairs or tables if they are in there. The room was available which was an advantage when filming.
